ROADWORKS on one of the main roads into Musselburgh starts today (Monday) and last for three weeks.

The work on Linkfield Road, which runs alongside Musselburgh Racecourse, will take place over a period of time when two race meetings are scheduled to take place there.

However, East Lothian Council insists that it will try to suspend work during the days when race meetings are due to be held.

The local authority has announced plans to carry out resurfacing work on the road, and say that the roadworks will be done in three phases to minimise disruption.

The council said that phasing the work would enable them to maintain access into Beulah, Windsor Gardens and Craighall Terrace using three-way traffic lights.

However, Ashgrove will need to be closed for one of the phases.

The council said it would make efforts to suspend work when the two race meetings scheduled for later this month were taking place.

A spokesman said: “We are aware there are two race meetings in the afternoons of Wednesday, August 26, and Thursday, August 27.

“If possible, we will remove our traffic management during these times.

“If it is not possible or practical to remove the traffic management in place, the traffic lights will be operated in order to minimise delays and disruption.” And he appealed to residents and motorists to be patient while the work was being carried out, and to plan ahead.

He said: “Please be aware that you may experience short delays in this area during these times and plan journeys accordingly.”
