TRIBUTES are being paid to one of Loretto School’s great headmasters David McMurray, who died this week at the age of 77.
Mr McMurray attended the Musselburgh school as a young boy between 1945 and 1951.
He then returned to take the position of headmaster in 1976, remaining in the role for eight years.
A former chairman of governors at Fettes, Mr McMurray was described as a consummate schoolmaster.
Loretto School said it was with great sadness they had learned of his passing.
A spokesperson for the school said: “David McMurray will be sorely missed by us all within the Loretto community and our thoughts and prayers are with Toni (his wife), their three daughters and their families.”
