ROADWORKS will close a major route in and out of Musselburgh from Sunday for more than two weeks.

East Lothian Council said that the B6415 from the east side of the roundabout north of Old Craighall Service Station to the west of Mayfield Crescent will be shut to traffic until Thursday, April 2, to allow essential works to be carried out.

The works include the continuation of a ScottishPower project to upgrade its network from Joppa to Monktonhall substation, the renewal of other ironwork in that section of road, and repairs and resurfacing to the carriageway by East Lothian Council Roads Service.

The road will close at the roundabout just before Old Craighall junction, stopping traffic going in and out of the south west of the town.

Traffic coming off the A1 will only be able to access the Travel Lodge and petrol station or go left towards Old Craighall itself.

Diversions will be in place and signposted, and local access to properties will be maintained.

Residents affected will be kept up to date on access to their homes.

A council spokeswoman said: “East Lothian Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks people for their continued patience.”
