A SPATE of robberies and attempted robberies have taken place in Musselburgh over the past weeks.

On Saturday, October 4, and Tuesday, October 21, two separate incidents were reported at Millhill and Pinkie Farm respectively.

During these incidents, two women were approached by a male who attempted to snatch their handbags. Both victims refused to surrender their belongings and the suspect made off.

Another report was made to police on Monday, October 6, where a 31-year-old man’s mobile phone was stolen at about 10.30pm on North High Street. The victim was not injured during the theft.

The suspect for the incident on October 21 is described as aged between 14 and 18, between 5ft 4ins and 5ft 8ins tall with a slight build, spiked hair and possibly wearing black framed glasses.

On every occasion the suspect was wearing a dark hooded top.

Police are investigating whether these offences are all linked and are advising the public to come forward if they have information that can assist with the ongoing enquiries.

Inspector Andrew Harborow said: “These robberies have had various levels of success, but have nevertheless caused considerable distress to the victims.

"We wish to speak to anyone who may have witnessed these incident in order to help us with our enquiries.

“We are also advising the public to be aware that these attacks have been taking place and to take steps to secure their property when they are out.

“Make sure you secure your bag and keep it closed. When you are in the street and using your mobile phone, be aware of your immediate surroundings and be aware of anyone who may be loitering near you.” Anyone who recognises the description of this man or has any information about this incident is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
