East Lothian’s newest community rowing club has just received a massive boost to build a second boat and get more people on the water.

Eskmuthe Rowing Club has been given £10,000 by Awards For All to build and equip a second boat to go alongside its first skiff Honesty, which celebrates a year in the water this weekend.

The club is putting out an appeal for premises in which to build the boat, and would ideally like to stay in Musselburgh or the surrounding area.

The local club, which held its first regatta last month at the end of the Musselburgh Festival, hopes someone will provide an unused workshop or similar space for the project.

Gaynor Allen, club committee member and fundraiser, said: “We are delighted to be able to build a second skiff and take our club onto a new level.

“We are a growing group of very committed rowers and love being out on the water.

“If anyone knows of an old workshop that we could use to build the boat please contact us.

“We need something that is at least five metres by 10 metres and that a fully-built skiff could get out of.

“Also, if anyone wants to come along and have a row, we are always looking for new members.” If anyone knows of premises which might be available for building the boat, they can contact Gaynor at gaynor.allen@yahoo.co.uk, preferably by August 24.
