MUMS Elaine Burgess, Kerry McLean and Tracy McCroskery – who work together at Loretto Junior School – have celebrated turning 40 by covering 47 miles in six days during a sponsored cycle, raising over £5,000 for county charity The Teapot Trust.

The trio were joined by fellow Loretto teacher Kirsten Seabra on their challenge.

They were inspired by Laura Young from Gullane, who founded the charity, and is a parent at Loretto.

The Teapot Trust was set up in memory of Laura’s daughter Verity and Verity’s love of art and tea.

Verity spent much of her life in hospital coping with illness and managing the effects that her treatment had on her young body. The youngster died in November 2009, aged only eight.

The four keen cyclists were moved by the loss suffered by the Young family, inspiring them to take part in the charity cycle.

The intrepid quartet left John O’Groats on Monday, July 28, and arrived back at Loretto in Musselburgh on Saturday.
