MUSSELBURGH residents are being warned they face disruption on High Street as East Lothian Council starts road improvements expected to take four months to complete.

Temporary traffic lights and parking restrictions will be in force from August 4, as the work begins on the section of the busy road between Kilwinning Street and Pinkie Pillars.

The work will consist of the creation of new additional parking areas, kerb re-alignment, carriageway resurfacing, pavement resurfacing, the installation of traffic signals and landscaping.

Councillor Michael Veitch, cabinet spokesperson for transport and roads, said: “In order to carry out this work safely it will be necessary to install temporary traffic and pedestrian management systems and some temporary parking restrictions on sections of the road.

“These will all be signed and coned accordingly but inevitably there will be some disruption during the construction period, which the contractor hopes to keep to a minimum.” It is expected that the construction work will take about 16 weeks which, assuming reasonable weather conditions, should result in the work being completed by November 21.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and all businesses will be open as usual.
