TRIBUTES have been paid to a 14-year-old Musselburgh teenager who drowned in a swimming accident on Monday evening.

Bockarie Sonnah, who had recently moved to the town from the Longstone area of Edinburgh, was swimming with friends in Torduff Reservoir in Bonaly Country Park, on the outskirts of the city, when he got into difficulties.

As the alarm was raised, passers-by tried to reach the teenager, but they were unable to get to him in time.

Emergency services arrived at the scene at around 6.15pm, and Police Scotland’s Marine Unit recovered Bocharie’s body shortly after 10pm.

Bockarie, who had attended Firhill High School, in Edinburgh, was a promising player with Redhall Star YFC.

The club paid tribute to the youngster, describing him as a “huge presence”.
