A MAN struggled with a shop assistant as he robbed a newsagents in Musselburgh last Friday.

The incident happened at about 8.05pm at Fame Newsagents on North High Street, when a man stole a three-figure sum while struggling with the shop assistant, who was slightly injured.

The thief, who is described as white, Scottish, in his early 20' and 5ft 5-7ins, is of heavy build and has blond hair brushed forward and light-coloured stubble. He has a mark or scar above one of his eyebrows, and was wearing a light sky blue coloured cotton tracksuit, hooded jumper with white writing and light coloured trainers.

After running out of the shop, he was last seen heading in the direction of The Brunton.

Detective Inspector Dave Pinkney from Police Scotland, who is leading the hunt for the man, said: "This man is believed to be from the local area and I am appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time, or recognises the description, to contact Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"In particular, I am keen to speak to a customer who was in the shop at the time and who witnessed the incident. I have no description, other than he is believed to be East European, and would urge him to come forward."
