TALENTED local footballer Steven Slater will be remembered at the Edinburgh Marathon this year as friend Billy Morrison takes on the tough running challenge in his memory.

Steven, who played for Musselburgh Windsor FC and Hearts FC, died suddenly in March. He was 25.

Friend Billy is raising cash for Marie Curie Cancer Care during his charity run and is using Steven’s memory as his inspiration.

Billy said: “Steven and I would often run together across the Lammermuirs – he was a very fit young lad and enjoyed fitness very much.

“I am running to remember and to honour my friend.” Billy will, with the support of Steven’s father Andy and brother Michael, wear a special t-shirt bearing his friend’s picture as he runs on Sunday, May 25.

A Justgiving webpage has been created, with family and friends encouraging people to donate.

Windsor FC president Scott Robertson said: This is a wonderful gesture by Billy.” Meanwhile, the club is planning a seven-a-side tournament in August in memory of Steven.
