A CAR was stolen from outside a Musselburgh home on Saturday after thieves took the keys from inside the house.

On Saturday, Police received a report of a grey Volkswagen Golf car having been stolen from Maitland Avenue, Musselburgh.

Thieves had entered the property and removed the car keys in order to steal the vehicle.

A similar incident then happened on Wednesday morning in Gorebridge.

Police are now asking anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward, particularly if they notice anything suspicious in the area.

They are also urging residents to ensure their properties are suitably protected against criminal activity.

Detective Sergeant Gordon Millar, from the Community Investigation Unit, said: "We want to remind homeowners that it is imperative they make sure that they secure their homes during the hours of darkness and to report any suspicious vehicles or activity to us straight away.

"Theft of vehicles and theft by housebreaking is a crime that significantly impacts on people's lives and the prompt passing of information greatly assists police to trace those responsible." Anyone with any information on the stolen vehicles can contact Police Scotland on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
