THE general manager of Musselburgh Racecourse has been appointed to the board of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA).
Bill Farnsworth, who has been in charge at the county's only racecourse for 11 years, takes up his post on August 1 for three years.
Mr Farnsworth has also worked for the Racecourse Association. He will remain in his position as general manger at Musselburgh.
Mr Farnsworth said: "I am joining the BHA board at a very challenging time. The funding of our racing industry, from the betting industry, has plunged to an all-time low. Racing is facing a financial crisis in 2011."
John Prideaux, Musselburgh Racecourse chairman, said: "We are delighted that he will be remaining in charge at Musselburgh."
