Armed robber strikes at butchers

POLICE are hunting an armed robber after he escaped with a four-figure sum from a Musselburgh butchers.

The theft happened at Aytoun Butchers on High Street on Saturday at 4.55pm.

The suspect gained entry to the back office just after the shop had closed for the day.

He threatened a member of staff by pressing an unknown object against him and demanding cash, then grabbed a low four-figure sum of money before running out into the gardens at the back of the Newbigging properties.

The suspect is described as being white 5ft 9ins tall, 20-25 years old, of slim build, with short dark shaved hair.

He was wearing a grey hooded top and grey jogging bottoms, with black gloves and a white scarf pulled up over his face.

A police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, and may have seen what happened, to contact us.

"Additionally, we would ask anyone who recognises the description of the suspects to get in touch."
