Ex-Simple Minds boss to judge talent show

A MUSSELBURGH primary school is on the lookout for the next Susan Boyle - by holding its own talent competition in a bid to raise £40,000 for a new playground.

And in a coup, one of the judges lined up to appear in Campie's Got Talent is former Simple Minds manager Bruce Findlay, who has a grandson at the school.

Auditions will be held at Campie Primary School on February 26, with 12 contestants going through to the competition final at the Brunton Hall on Saturday, March 13.

A cash prize of £50 is on offer to the winner and entries have to be in by Friday, February 12.

The entrance fee is £1 for solo acts, and 50p per person for groups.

Initially launched in August last year, the talent contest is still needing further sponsorship from local businesses to be a success.

Gaynor Allen, a member of the school's PTA, said: "The kids and teachers are very excited about Campie's Got Talent and it should be a wonderful occasion.

"We are still looking for sponsorship to help us make this a huge success so if anyone is looking to help please get in touch with the school.

"And to top it all off, we have a real, bona fide Scottish music legend as one of the judges. Bruce Findlay has over 40 years' experience in the music industry as he managed one of the country's best ever bands, Simple Minds."
