NOT-SO-LITTLE Mia Denholm became the county's first newborn of the decade on Ne'er Day.
The bumper 56cm-long infant, expected on December 24, came as a late Christmas gift to doe-eyed parents Calum, 20, and Mhari, 19, who had expected to celebrate the end of their daughter's first week on New Years Day.
But overdue baby Mia had other ideas. The 9lbs 3oz tot successfully avoided birth until the very last minute, with midwives having to induce labour.
Mum Mhari Hulbert said the birth was mostly smooth sailing... despite braving icy weather from her Musselburgh home to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
"We took a slow drive up to the hospital on Hogmanay," she explained. "We got there at around 9pm and they did a scan, checked me over and sent me to the labour ward."
Shortly after 7am, Mia Delholm was born - East Lothian's first baby of 2010. Mia's dad Calum, an electrician, her uncle, grandmother and great-grandmother waited at the hospital throughout her birth.
Asked about her nine-hour labour mum Mhari said: "The last bit was the worst bit.
"But I held up alright and, of course, it was worth it in the end.
"We had a bit of trouble getting her out when she became a bit stuck," said Mum Mhari who returned home to Pinkie Hill Crescent on Saturday.
On being crowned the first county mum of 2010, she exclaimed: "It's brilliant. I am totally over the moon."
