ARMED police swooped on a Musselburgh street on Monday evening after reports of suspicious activity in the area.

Two men were arrested after officers entered a house on Old Course Gate at 7pm in what Police Scotland described as an "intelligence-led search".

Local residents reported seeing a team of armed officers on the scene as a police helicopter hovered over the street.

Police would only confirm that specialist resources were used during the operation.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in East Lothian carried out an intelligence-led search of an address on Old Course Gate, Musselburgh, on Monday, May 14.

"As a result, two men aged 26 and 23 were arrested and inquiries are ongoing.

"Local and specialist resources were utilised as part of this activity; however, there was no risk to the public at any time."
