CLAIMS Musselburgh Racecourse will no longer be run as a not-for-profit organisation under East Lothian Council’s stewardship have been dismissed.

The racecourse, which was run by Musselburgh Joint Racing Committee (MJRC) until the local authority replaced it with a new associated committee following a meeting last month, is run as a not-for-profit organisation, with all profits invested back into the course and its facilities.

John Prideaux, chairman of Lothians Racing Syndicate, which jointly ran it with the council under MJRC, claimed the local authority had removed the stipulation from the new committee.

However, Councillor Fiona O’Donnell, who chaired the MJRC and will continue in that role on the new committee, dismissed the allegation.

She said: “No change has been proposed and no decision taken to do so.”

The council is due to consider the long-term future of the racecourse at a future meeting.
