POLICE are hunting thieves who broke into a house in Musselburgh while its owners were away on holiday.

The owners of the property, on Grove Street, returned from a three-week holiday yesterday (WED) to find their home had been broken into and ransacked.

Among items stolen were jewellery and computer equipment.

Officers are also appealing for witnesses after a beauty salon in the town was also targeted be thieves earlier this week.

They said staff arrived at Top to Toe, on Newbigging, on Tuesday morning to discover an attempted break-in.

The incident occurred some time between the salon closing at 4pm on Saturday and 9am on Tuesday morning.

Inquiries into both of these offences are continuing and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Sergeant Derek MacDonald said: "The victims from Grove Street were devastated to find their home had been targeted while they were on holiday and their personal belongings stolen.

"While staff at the salon were relieved to find that the store had not been entered, they were upset and disappointed to find that some damage had been caused to property during the attempted break-in.

"We're conducting various lines of inquiry into both of these incidents and anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity around either address should contact police immediately.

"In addition, if you have any other information relevant to these inquiries then please also get in touch."

Anyone with information can contact Musselburgh Police Station via 101. Alternatively, an anonymous report can also be made through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
