THE world’s most famous cricket ground rang to the sound of the pipes on Saturday... thanks to a Musselburgh pipe band.
The Loretto School Pipe Band and Highland Dancers added a splash of tartan and a distinctly Scottish flavour to the first test match at Lord’s on the third day of play between England and South Africa.
Playing in front of a capacity crowd of 30,000 in London, they provided the lunch entertainment on the hallowed turf at the ‘Home of Cricket’.
Billed and introduced as the “world-famous Loretto School Pipe Band and Highland Dancers”, the pupils wowed the spectators, performing for half an hour.
It is the latest in a string of accolades for the pipe band which has also played with Sir Paul McCartney and performed at Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh Castle and for the Pope.
Jonathan Hewat, director of communications at Loretto, said: “Having been so impressed with the Loretto Pipe Band playing at Hampden Park and the Liverpool Echo Arena with Sir Paul McCartney and other recent high-profile events, we were honoured and delighted they were chosen to play at Lord’s.”
