LEGION Scotland Sweetheart Amy Hawthorn was the guest of honour at Burgh Primary School’s recent summer fair in Musselburgh.

She had first visited the school in November and sang with the P7 pupils at a remembrance assembly on Armistice Day.

She wrote The Fight Inside, a special edition CD single in support of the Scottish Poppy Appeal, and youngsters sang with her as the chorus in front of an audience of staff, parents and visitors.

Amy, from West Lothian, was such a hit with the pupils that they contacted her to invite her back to officially open the fair and she accepted.

The theme of the event, which was held in the Burgh playground, was ‘All the Fun of the Fair’ and the children were tasked to come up with their own ideas for stalls, which ranged from beat the goalie and tin can alley to home baking, hoopla, Lego and bubbles. There were also pony rides and candy floss on sale.

Amy sang at the start of the fair and drew the raffle. Visitors got the chance to see a fire engine and police vehicle at close-hand.

Each of the P7 classes took part in the Youth Enterprise ‘Fiver Challenge’ in which they applied for £5 and then worked in small groups to turn it into as much of a profit as they could.

The fair, which was organised by volunteers from the school council, raised about £1,300 for school funds.
