A £1 MILLION indoor trampoline arena could spring into action at Musselburgh later this year, bringing 65 jobs to the Honest Toun.

Jump In – which describes itself as the UK’s fastest-growing trampoline arena operator – has announced that it proposes to open new sites in Scotland at Musselburgh and Aberdeen.

The new centre, which Jump In hopes will open in October, will be the first of its kind in East Lothian, with the company wanting to build at “a highly sought-after location near to Fort Kinnaird, ensuring that it’s accessible to all”.

The site is rumoured to be Newhailes Industrial Estate but the company declined to comment at this stage.

The large-scale facility would accommodate more than 100 jumpers at any one time and have about 65 full and part-time employees.

Jump In operates five facilities nationally and recently received planning permission for a sixth site in Aberdeen. It would require planning permission for its proposed Musselburgh venture but has yet to submit a planning application to East Lothian Council.

Vernon West, chairman of Jump In, said: “We’re thrilled to have taken the first steps in becoming East Lothian’s only trampoline park.

“We have been searching for the right space in East Lothian for over a year and think the highly accessible location we have alighted on will delight local families and members of the public.”

The park would have many of the most popular facilities from the existing sites, including 70 inter-connected trampolines and wall trampolines, as well as foam pits, air bags, dedicated toddler jump space and a Gladiators-style battle beam.

The team from Jump In also wish to involve their future customers by giving them the opportunity to determine which new features they would most like to see at the Musselburgh venue. Options include a rope swing, basketball nets, tightrope and soft play area.

Jump In was set up by three “fun-loving and adventuresome” parents who were looking for activities to share with their children. Founders Mr West and his wife Linsey Willaford-West were visiting family in Texas when they came across the trampoline park concept. They took their toddler to the park and had so much fun that they came back nearly every day for the remainder of their trip.

On returning to the UK, Mr West was so excited about the idea he spent many days and weeks researching the concept before reaching out to Gavin Lucas to co-found and head up the organisation.

As a fellow parent and someone with a passion for sports, he was excited about how trampoline parks could transform the way people could get fit and play.

A spokesman for East Lothian Council said: “There hasn’t been any planning application submitted at this stage. We wouldn’t be able to comment more specifically.”

The ‘Jump In Trampoline Arena East Lothian/Edinburgh’ Facebook page will play host to a poll, giving residents input on the plan.
