POPULAR Musselburgh restaurant and leisure complex The Quay has been put up for sale.

The site, which currently holds the Frisco Bay restaurant, a bar, a diner, a leisure complex with a swimming pool and gym, and several function spaces which cater for a range of events such as weddings, recently received planning permission for 28 bedrooms.

If the bedrooms were built, they would replace the existing leisure facilities.

Owner Charan Gill has now put the facility, at Fisherrow Harbour, up for sale through specialist business property adviser Christie & Co.

The freehold of The Quay Complex is available through Christie & Co for £1.365m.

Stuart Drysdale, associate director at Christie & Co, said: “This is a great opportunity for someone new to enhance this established venue in Musselburgh and potentially bring something new to the local and wider community.

“The addition of bedrooms to the venue would escalate the business’s capability to cater for weddings and conferences, although it currently trades successfully as it stands.

"With its diverse range of uses, we expect a lot of interest from a range of buyers.”

Planning permission for the bedrooms was received in November last year.

Back in August when the plan was lodged with East Lothian Council, owner Mr Gill told the Courier that alteration work would not be carried out in the “foreseeable future”.

He added: “The reason for the application is to have alternative plans for The Quay in the future and keep our options open in an ever-changing business environment.”
