COMMUNITY councillors in Musselburgh are calling for the outside of the town’s "eyesore" police station to be spruced up.
They have contacted Police Scotland about the condition of the stone-built High Street building, saying the exterior is dirty and “grubby”.
They want the steps leading to the front door cleaned and the doors and window frames painted.
Community council chairman Irene Tait said: “It is a bit of an eyesore at the moment. The steps up to it are grubby and have got discoloured over the years.”
But it is unlikely cash-strapped cops will be able to spend cash on a revamp any time soon.
Alasdair Copland, east facilities manager for Police Scotland, said: “The condition and image of our premises and buildings are important to Police Scotland and we are looking to improve external aspects of our estate.
“At this moment however, in an environment of intense budgetary constraints, we are concentrating on health and safety matters across the national police estate, as well as making our properties wind and watertight where such issues occur.
“Once these statutory and necessary works are addressed, aesthetic matters can be considered and factored into any decisions made on future maintenance.”
