A Musselburgh pub is flushed with success after winning a top platinum star rating in the Loo of the Year Awards 2016.

The toilets at the David Macbeth Moir in Bridge Street, a Wetherspoon outlet, won acclaim for their quality and standard.

Inspectors, who make unannounced visits to hundreds of loos across the UK, judge them on numerous criteria, including decor, maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing, drying equipment and overall management.

The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of 'away from home' toilet provision across the country.

All of the toilets are graded from bronze to gold with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

The platinum rating is given only to outlets which offer "exceptional toilets".

Manager David Black said: "I am delighted with the award. Staff at the pub work hard to ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

Mike Bone, managing director of the Loo of the Year awards 2016, commented: "The toilets at the David Macbeth Moir have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.

"The pub richly deserves its platinum award - the highest individual award the judges can deliver."
