A MAIN road into Musselburgh is to be closed for 10 days. . . to provide some festive cheer.

The closure is taking place so utility work can be carried out to allow a young family to spend Christmas in their new home.

A section of the B6415 Monktonhall Terrace between the Old Craighall roundabout and Mayfield Crescent at Musselburgh will be shut from November 7 to 16 (the area between the points A and B on the below map will be the section of the road that is closed).

A spokesperson for East Lothian Council said: "We have agreed to a closure of the road from Mayfield Crescent to the mini roundabout at Ferguson Drive and this is to facilitate utility works to a property there, and the subsequent reinstatement and resurfacing of the road.

"This will enable our building control to issue a habitation certificate and permit a young family to spend Christmas in their new home."

Councillor John McNeil, Musselburgh West, said planning permission had been granted for the new house to be built at Monktonhall Terrace.

He told the Courier that residents of Greenfield Park and Monktonhall Place would be able to access the A1 bypass but would have to travel to Musselburgh town centre via Newcraighall or the Wallyford junction.

He added that signage informing motorists of the closure would be installed in the area and on the A1.

Mr McNeil said that the closure would not affect Lothian Buses' 30 service but would affect the 111 service to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Information on the road closure is available at the Brunton Hall or by getting in touch with East Lothian Council's contact centre on 01620 827827.
