AFTER four successful years delivering family Hogmanay celebrations in Musselburgh, The Brunton returns with its best yet programme yet.

New for 2016 is a second family ceilidh, both with cabaret style seating at tables, to meet demand, new style lantern-making for the parade, storytelling and puppetry with ‘It’s In The Bag’ and Clydebuilt Puppets.

On Saturday, December 31, The Brunton will host a day packed with activities for families. Ticketed activities and events run from 11am to 5.30pm.

There is a free early evening lantern parade and fireworks display at Fisherrow Links.

Paid for ticketed activities include: family ceilidhs; illuminated lantern-making for use in the parade; drumming workshops with the Edinburgh Samba School; Sam and Rosie’s Tartan Tea Party and Highland Adventure with storytelling and puppets from It’s In The Bag; Three Giants, a comic story with life-sized body puppets from Clydebuilt Puppets; Aladdin, The Brunton’s own traditional family pantomime; and Hogmania, a family friendly ceilidh with live band, food and pipers; face painting and craft activities.

The free evening events start at 6.30pm as people gather at The Brunton for the lantern parade which sets off at 7pm led by the Edinburgh Samba Band, Apus walkabout illuminated birds and Jacks of Frost. This leads to Fisherrow Links for a Scottish fireworks display from 7.30pm to 8pm.

The Hogmanay celebrations in the Honest Toun are delivered by East Lothian Council and The Brunton and have received support as part of the Scotland’s Winter Festivals events programme.

Councillor Tim Day, cabinet spokesperson for community wellbeing at East Lothian Council, said: “Family Hogmanay in Musselburgh has become a much-loved tradition for families not just from East Lothian but from the rest of Scotland and beyond, to celebrate the end of the year and look forward to new beginnings.

“This year promises to be the best yet with additional fun events added to meet demand.

“The lantern parade and fireworks display creates a real excitement in the town. We welcome visitors to the area to come to East Lothian and join with us for a Musselburgh celebration – Hogmanay in the Honest Toun.”
