ELDERLY residents at St Anne’s Care Home in Musselburgh are enjoying going back to the age of steam. . . in their communal living area.
For an interactive electronic wall-feature known as a RemPod has been installed there – which gives them the impression of looking out a window during a moving train journey, showing everything from countryside to buildings on a 42-inch television screen.
The TV is set inside a specially made frame which looks like a railway carriage compartment.
A memory stick is inserted into the back of the TV to create hours of scenic countryside footage.
The numbered train compartment has a vintage-style table with fine-looking china to serve teas, plus a luggage rack feature and various train signage.
Care home manager Agnes Taylor said they bought the RemPod from a manufacturer in Stroud for £2,500. She said: “It helps with dementia-related reminiscence and promotes conversation.”
The care home, on Windsor Gardens, has 36 residents aged from late 70s to late 90s, and a respite facility.
