DOUBLE Olympic gold medal-winning rower and army officer Captain Heather Stanning MBE RA is the guest speaker at a lecture hosted by Loretto School in Musselburgh.

The event has been organised jointly with Combat Stress for Thursday, October 6, at 7pm.

A serving captain in the Royal Artillery, Heather, along with her rowing partner Helen Glover, was victorious at the Rio 2016 Olympics, winning a gold medal in the women’s coxless pair.

This was her second Olympic gold medal, after her previous success at the 2012 London Olympics, winning the first ever British Olympic gold medal in women’s rowing.

Jonathan Hewat, director of communications at Loretto School, said: “Heather’s recent win in Rio was fabulous and we congratulate her.

“She has worked hard to become both an army officer and a successful athlete. She is a fantastic role model and an inspirational speaker and we are delighted to have her join us at Loretto as a guest speaker at the Combat Stress Scotland Autumn Lecture. This promises to be a really exciting event.

“Combat Stress continues to see an increase in the number of veteran referrals they receive each year. It is therefore vital that the awareness is raised and that we support the charity in order to meet this increasing demand. Events such as this lecture are a fantastic way for us to do this.”

The event is open to all, tickets are free and can be reserved by contacting Nicolle Grace on 01372 587148 or email nicolle.grace@combatstress.org.uk
