A MAN attempted to rob a passer-by at knifepoint in broad daylight in Musselburgh.

The incident happened at about 4pm last Thursday on a footpath on Eskside East.

A 40-year-old man was walking near to the bridge known locally as the Electric Bridge when a male approached him and took out a knife before demanding he hand over belongings.

The victim refused and a struggle ensued before the suspect made off.

Police are continuing with inquiries and anyone who can assist with tracing the male responsible is asked to come forward.

He is described as white, between 5ft 8ins and 6ft 2ins tall, with a medium build and light brown hair in a ponytail. It is believed he was wearing blue jeans and a dark t-shirt.

Detective Constable Jordan Sharp, from Dalkeith Police Station, said: "The victim did not require any medical attention following this incident, but was left very shaken and upset as a result.

"Anyone who was around the Eskside East area or the Electric Bridge on Thursday afternoon last week and remembers seeing anything suspicious should contact police immediately.

"We would also ask that anyone who recognises the description of the suspect and who can help us identify him also gets in touch."

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
