A new Home Bargains store opened in Musselburgh on Saturday, creating up to 50 jobs.

The £500,000 retail business at Olivebank Retail Park, has been built on the site of former nightclub Madisons.

The official opening was celebrated with a mass giveaway with £2,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.

They included an iPad Air 2, Playstation 4, a GoPro, Nutribullet, a year's subcription to Netflix and vouchers for Home Bargains and Ticketmaster.

The event also featured an appearance from children's favourite Stuart from the hit Universal Pictures films Minions and Despicable Me.

The company, which is one of the UK's biggest family-run retailers, has created up to 50 new jobs, both full time and part time, at the new store at Newhailes Road.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “We're thrilled to launch our first store in Musselburgh and look forward to welcoming new customers through the doors.”

The 12,000 sq ft new-built unit will offer Musselburgh shoppers a range of products including home wares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Mr Morris added: “Olivebank Retail Park will be a great location for us and we’re pleased to be a new addition to the local business community.”
