CAMPIE Primary School in Musselburgh is being targeted by vandals, community councillors heard at their meeting last week.

Reporting on incidents of crime in the town during the past month, PC Dougie Smith said windows had been smashed at the after-school building and main school.

Police are also investigating complaints about a motorcyclist riding near Musselburgh Burgh Primary School, which had happened four times during the day. The same motorcyclist, who did not have number plates on his bike, was also seen doing a wheelie up the town High Street.

PC Smith reported that in the past month there had been 679 calls to Musselburgh Police Station. A total of 129 crimes were recorded and 76 had been solved.

Two people were charged with drugs supply. Five others, who were stopped and searched by police officers, were found in possession of controlled drugs.

There were 50 public nuisance calls, 25 of which were youth related, and 40 noise complaints.

PC Smith highlighted problems with youths, possibly from Prestonpans, hanging about outside the Pinkie convenience store.

Police have mounted their usual high-visibility patrols in the town centre, with fixed penalty notices issued to people for breach of the peace and being drunk and incapable.

Twelve assaults were reported in Musselburgh, six of which have been solved.

Ten vehicles were checked and seized as their owners did not have insurance. Four tickets were issued to motorists who were illegally parked on the zebra crossing outside the police station in the High Street.

There have been 10 reports of shoplifting, six of which have been solved.

Enquiries are ongoing into three reports of house breaking and five break-ins to business premises, one of which has been solved.
