A WOMAN has been charged in connection with a fake charity collection scam in the Musselburgh area.

Police had been investigating after members of the public became suspicious of a woman claiming to be raising funds by doing a swim challenge.

As a result of information from the local community, a 42-year-old was subsequently detained yesterday (Sunday) and will now be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Constable Donald Kettrick said: "Thanks to our information appeal being carried in local media, we received information from the public, which allowed us to charge a woman in connection with these offences.

"I would like to thank the community for their assistance and would urge anyone with any information relating to ongoing crime in their area to contact us immediately so it can be appropriately investigated."
