GOLF equipment worth over £1,000 has been stolen from a house in Musselburgh.

Police are appealing for information after a break-in sometime between 9.30pm on Wednesday and 8.30am the following day at an address on Carberry Close.

They forced entry into a double garage and then made off with two sets of golf clubs and bags worth an estimated four-figure sum.

Police are now carrying out various lines of inquiry in an effort to trace those responsible and are appealing for the assistance of the public.

In particular, they want to trace two males who were seen in an Audi A3, which was travelling in the area at about 1.30am on Thursday.

Inspector Andrew Harborow, who is based in Tranent, said: "Our inquiries are at an early stage; however, I want to hear from anyone who noticed suspicious behaviour in the area around the time of this break-in to come forward.

"I am also keen to trace the two males who were seen nearby in an Audi A3 during the early hours of Thursday, April 21. Anyone who knows them or who saw this vehicle is asked to contact police immediately.

"Tackling housebreakers is a priority for Police Scotland and we will use all resources at our disposal in order to capture and arrest those involved in this crime.

"However, there are a number of crime prevention measures that members of the public can take in order to reduce their chances of becoming a victim such as leaving lights on, ensuring doors and windows are locked when you are out and hiding valuable items from view."
