A FAKE charity collector has been conning East Lothian residents out of money.

Police are warning residents of the Musselburgh area following several incidents involving the woman, who has been calling door-to-door requesting sponsorship for a sporting event in aid of a cancer charity.

The incidents took place between Tuesday and Wednesday of this week in the Inveresk area.

A number of householders have already fallen victim as it has been established this is a fraudulent scheme.

The woman is described as white, between 35 and 45 years old, with shoulder-length black dyed hair with a centre parting, 5ft 4in to 5ft 9in tall with a slim to medium build and local accent.

She had a bunny girl tattoo on the right side of her neck, a star tattoo on the outside of her left wrist and two rows of writing on the inside of her left forearm.

Anyone who recognises this description or has any information should contact Police Scotland on 101, or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
