A MAN has been arrested and charged after 55 cannabis plants worth about £12,000 were discovered in a county home.

The 29-year-old man from Musselburgh has been arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act following an intelligence-led police operation in East Lothian.

Uniformed divisional officers attended an address on Macbeth Moir Road on Monday, where they recovered 55 mature cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £12,000.

The male occupant was subsequently arrested and reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Jonathan Fleetwood, who is based at Haddington police station, said: “Thanks to vital intelligence gathered from the local community we have prevented a substantial quantity of harmful drugs from reaching our streets.

“Tackling those involved in the sale and production of drugs remains a top priority for police in East Lothian and we’re committed to addressing this issue head-on.

“I would urge anyone who has information about drug dealing in their area to come forward immediately. Rest assured that we will treat your report with the utmost seriousness and will not pass on your personal details."
