A HOUSEBREAKING in Inveresk is estimated to have cost between £40,000 and £50,000, after thieves stole a large quantity of building supplies which were set to be used for a major renovation.

The incident happened sometime between 5.15pm on Thursday, March 17, and 8am on Friday, March 18, at an address on Inveresk Village Road.

A room within the property was being used to store various fittings, fixtures and tiles for a major renovation and was entered during the break-in.

Police were then contacted on Friday morning when the project team showed up and found all of these items had been stolen from inside.

Anyone who can help police trace those responsible is asked to come forward.

Inspector Andrew Harborow from Tranent Police Station said: “The cost associated with this housebreaking is estimated to be between £40,000 and £50,000 due to the large quantity of building supplies and fixtures for the home which were stolen.

“To remove these materials from the property would require the use of a van or truck and so I would ask that anyone who remembers seeing a suspicious vehicle in or around Inveresk Village Road on Thursday evening or Friday morning to contact police immediately.

“Operation RAC officers are progressing this inquiry and anyone with information that can assist with their investigation should also get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
