POLICE have confirmed the number of deliberate fire attacks now being investigated following a night of mayhem in Musselburgh has reached ten.
Fire services and police were called to the town around 9pm on Sunday and spent the next seven hours responding to reports of fires at Fisherrow Harbour and surrounding streets.
One fishing boat was destroyed, one damaged, a flat set alight, as well as six cars and a van.
A police spokesperson said: "We are investigating ten separate incidents of wilful fire-raising that took place in the Fisherrow area of Musselburgh.
"At around 9pm on Sunday officers responded to a suspicious fire within a flat in Beach Lane.
"A subsequent report of a boat on fire within the harbour came in at around 11.40pm that evening and while in attendance police found a second boat that had been set alight.
"Further inquiry in the area revealed several cars in surrounding streets had also sustained minor damage and officers are now trying to establish if all of these offences are linked.
"It is believed the fires all occurred between 9pm on the 13th and 4am on the 14th and anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious, or who has information that can assist with this investigation, is asked to contact police immediately."
