A FORMER East Lothian Council social worker has been presented with a British Empire Medal in honour of services to children and families in the county.
Mary-Rose Egan, of Musselburgh, was presented with the medal by the Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian Michael Williams at Haddington Town House. She worked with the council’s children and families practice team for 39 years before retiring in 2013.
She has continued to work as a Trusted Adult, working as a volunteer to remain involved with several children and young people.
Colleagues said Ms Egan was known for working long hours, evenings and weekends.
Ms Egan also devoted time to supporting students social workers, taking them on visits to develop their skills.
A council spokesman said: “Mary-Rose Egan’s unique skills have made a permanent, positive impact on many children and families in East Lothian.”
The British Empire Medal is awarded for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown.
