MUSSELBURGH and Inveresk Community Council treasurer Janice Burr has stepped down from the organisation after 13 years’ service.

Mrs Burr revealed her decision at the community council’s annual general meeting last week after informing chairwoman Irene Tait by letter.

She said that other committee commitments and her desire to spend more time with her family had led to the decision.

Thanking the community council for their support over the years, Mrs Burr added: “It has been a very satisfying experience.”

During the AGM, Irene Tait was re-elected as chairwoman, with Betty Ramsden re-elected as vice-chairwoman and Margaret Stewart as secretary.

Community councillor Cathie McArthur took over the treasurer role.

Mrs Tait said that the community council had had a good year, pointing to the Torchlight Parade, Children’s Gala, and other main events in the town.

She thanked residents for their continued support.

Mrs Tait said: “There can be no doubt residents of Musselburgh, Fisherrow, Whitecraig, Wallyford and Inveresk, all want the same thing: a lovely environment in which to live and watch their children and grandchildren grow up.”
