Works inspired by the National Trust for Scotland’s Newhailes Estate have gone on display at the historic home.

The pieces in watercolour and paper were created by Fiona Grant Robertson, who was artist in residence at Newhailes for the last year.

They have been put on display in the education room for the summer season.

Fiona said: “In the spring of 2014, as I began my year as artist for Newhailes, I was confronted by a bewildering array of rich imagery.

“Even after a year, I feel I’ve scarcely begun to tackle the wealth of inspiration it provides in portraiture, landscape, architecture, interior decoration, textiles, ceramics and much, much more.” Newhailes is famed for having some of the finest rococo interiors in Scotland.

There are decorative details at every turn, from the gilded eagles over the drawing room windows to the Chinese wallpaper and Italian marble fireplaces.

Outside, the designed landscape is of international significance, with its woodland walks and shell grotto, all providing Fiona’s inspiration for her work.

Rhiannon Naismith, property manager, said: “It is wonderful to have Fiona’s exhibition as yet another addition to the Newhailes experience this summer.” Works inspired by the National Trust for Scotland’s Newhailes Estate have gone on display at the historic home.
