WORK has started on 49 privately owned retirement apartments near the Aubigny Centre.
McCarthy and Stone started work last month on the site at Mill Wynd, which will be made up of one and two-bedroom apartments, designed exclusively for the over-60s.
The apartments will be available to buy from spring next year, with residents able to move in next summer.
Rosemary Giovino, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy and Stone, was pleased to see progress being made.
She said: “At McCarthy and Stone we are committed to helping older people stay independent for longer.
“Retirement Living offers those over 60 the independence of home ownership combined with the peace of mind of additional security and low maintenance – allowing homeowners to spend more time socialising with family and friends.” Facilities at the Haddington development include a homeowner’s lounge, ideal for socialising, as well as landscaped gardens and a guest suite.
The development will also have its own house manager, a security entrance system and 24-hour emergency call points.
