Haddington Rugby Club have confirmed ambitious plans for their fun day, to be held at Neilson Park next month.

The club are among more than 150 who have signed up for RBS RugbyForce day, which sees them given help putting on a community day.

And the club have been chosen as the outstanding bid nationally by organisers, who as a result provide an increased level of fun for the day.

That will include a guest appearance from Scottish rugby legend Chris Paterson.

The 109-times-capped internationalist will be at Neilson Park throughout the afternoon on August 8, where youngsters will be able to get pictures and autographs.

Despite the event falling on the same day as Nungate Gala, Steve Wright, Haddington RFC committee member, believes they will attract a strong turnout at the event.

He said: “We are aiming for between four and five hundred people. We’re hopefully going to get the pipe band marching from the [Nungate] Gala, down to High Street, and up to the club in rugby shirts, so that should attract people.

“We’ll have signs all over the town and we’re hoping from a good turnout from our members.” And Rhodri Thomas, the club’s new head coach, has confirmed the senior squad will train in the morning before attending the event, which will run between 3 and 7pm.

There will be a number of activities on display, while food will be on offer for a small charge at the club’s barbecue.

The club will be open in the evening, after the fun day has drawn to a close.
