THE success of Haddington Farmers’ Market has been noted in the Scottish Parliament.

East Lothian MSP Iain Gray highlighted the “hugely successful” monthly event during question time at Holyrood earlier this week.

Haddington Farmers’ Market, next held on June 27, features top quality food, drink and other products from the county’s best producers.

Mr Gray said: “Haddington Farmers’ Market has become a very well established and popular fixture in the town. It has been hugely successful, offering consumers products they want, as well as helping support sustainable local businesses and showcasing the wide diversity of excellent produce the county has to offer.

“The variety of the stalls and quality of the produce available has enabled the market to maintain and build its appeal for people from the local area, as well as attracting many from further afield.” Mr Gray also asked Dr Aileen McLeod, the minister for environment, climate change and land reform, what specific support was available from the Scottish Government to assist established markets like Haddington’s.

He added: “Haddington Farmers’ Market recently received £6,000 from the Community Food Fund’s Think Local Project, which is clearly very welcome, but ongoing government support for this kind of established initiative is important.” “I will continue to highlight Haddington’s success and make the case for additional assistance to help it maintain its reputation and standing.”
