A MEETING to discuss the future of Haddington’s skate park takes place on Wednesday evening.

Plans for a skate park, on land off the town’s Whittingehame Drive, have been mooted for a number of years.

Progress has slowed in recent years but the scheme is now being taken forward by Stuart Gibb, area manager for the Haddington and Lammermuir and Dunbar and East Linton wards.

The meeting, held at Haddington Town House at 8.30pm, will see discussions centre on possible funding sources to help make the plans a reality.

Mr Gibb told the Courier: “The community council were running the project but it is now under the area partnership.

“We will go back to them and clarify the current position and proposed location.” The newly-appointed area manager is already working on funding options, with the project anticipated to cost in the region of £100,000 with almost 10 per cent of that figure already having been raised.

Mr Gibb added: “We want to aim for a high-class facility.” Youngsters were given the chance earlier this month to pick out their favourite design from a choice of three.

Paul Darling, one of the town’s community councillors, said there had been a good response by members of the public to the consultation.

He said: “We got a really good response on the Facebook page.

“We had more than 4,000 views and at the last stage there had been 130 people who had taken the time to fill in the survey and pick a park.”
