MORE music could soon be filling Haddington’s Railway Hotel, with plans for monthly music sessions.

Haddington Jam Sessions is the brainchild of Steve Morton, who was keen to see the area’s musicians have somewhere to practice and perform.

The 54-year-old has been involved in music in the area for more than a decade.

He said: “Back in 1999, I set up jam sessions in the Victoria Inn in Haddington after putting something in the Courier.

“Musicians got in touch with me; however, back in 1999 I didn’t have the internet and so the sessions required a lot of phone calls and it was very time consuming.

“It worked for a few months but it took up a lot of my time and it fizzled out.” Now, Steve is keen to bring the idea back to life, with music planned for the town’s Railway Hotel.

He said: “There’s a bit of a groundswell with Lamp House Music and East Coast FM.

“There are a lot of musicians out there who would love to go somewhere and play.

“Again, we’re just inviting musicians to come along and you can sing in front of a band as well.

“Now, we’ve got the digital age and social media, all things that were not available in 1999.

“Hopefully, it becomes self-perpetuating.” Steve, who lives just outside Haddington, is a keen drummer and was prepared to take his instrument to the jam sessions.

However, he encouraged anyone who was interested in taking part to come along with their own instrument as well.
