A HADDINGTON man who served in the RAF during the Second World War has celebrated his 100th birthday, surrounded by family and friends.
Bert Richardson marked the milestone last Wednesday at his care home at Liberton Brae, Edinburgh.
Brought up in Gifford, he stayed in Haddington for many years and still has relatives in Gifford and worldwide.
Mr Richardson served in the RAF during the Second World War as a corporal/mechanic.
During the war, he served in North Africa, Egypt, Sicily and Italy, salvaging crashed aeroplanes such as Lancaster bombers and Spitfires.
He worked as a foreman engineer at Ranco/Lemac in Haddington for many years.
