A FUNDRAISING concert could be held in a bid to raise funds for a new piano at Knox Academy.

The piano has been used by pupils at the Haddington secondary school for more than three decades.

Sarah Ingham, the school’s headteacher, told the Courier that discussions about a replacement piano began before the festive break following the Christmas concert and also took place at a PSP (Parent School Partnership) meeting last week.

She said: “[The piano] is fairly old and it has been properly used.

“It is reaching the end of its life and we reckon it is about 35 years old. I suspect it could tell some tales and there were probably some people in the audience at the Christmas concert who remember it from when they were at school.

“As with all things, they come to the end of a useful life.” A replacement piano is being lined up, although that is likely to cost somewhere in the region of £5,000 to £10,000.

Part of the funding is likely to come from the school’s general maintenance budget but fundraising is also likely to take place in a bid to buy the instrument.

Mrs Ingham added: “We basically asked parents to tell us and give us any ideas for fundraisers.

“We do a lot of concerts for parents but maybe we need to think about a musical event for the town and things like that.”
