TWO teenage girls are among a group of youths who have been arrested and charged with urinating in a school playground.
Haddington Infant School and St Mary’s RC Primary School called in police after their joint campus in Haddington was twice targeted by youths in September. Damage was caused to a playground – and a sandpit had to be replaced after it was found to have been used as a toilet.
Now four teenage boys and two girls have been arrested – and all six are charged with urinating in a public place, following police scrutiny of CCTV footage from the joint campus.
Reports of vandalism and theft from the playground are still being investigated, with Police Constable Lynn Black saying that officers were following a “positive line of inquiry”.
At the time of the incidents, Shirley Swinton, headteacher at Haddington Infant School, told the Courier they were “very disappointed” with what had happened.
A large group of youths appeared to have gathered in the playground, many of whom were from Knox Academy, and had left behind a trail of damage, broken bottles and hazards.
It is understood Knox Academy was contacted by police after CCTV footage identified a number of the youths.
PC Black had already identified 15 youths, both male and female, and been in touch with Knox Academy about the matter.
