A STATE-of-the-art tanning booth, created by a Haddington company, is making waves on the other side of the Atlantic.

Crystals Ltd already has significant experience in exporting products, with sales in 26 countries around the world.

However, the company is leading the way in self-tanning, fully automated spray booths.

Crystals’ i-tan Opus RTSB has attracted attention from across the Atlantic, with the company recently breaking the 200-booths sales barrier in the USA, where it is manufactured under licence by Norvell.

Already, the company is looking to expand further and explore the opportunities within the destination spa and boutique hotel channels, as well as offering luxury booths to home tan clients.

Tom Stamper, sales director, said: “I have just returned from the States where, with a population of 317 million, interest is high and the potential is exciting. On top of this, the company have recently received orders from two large UK beauty chains that are looking at a rollout programme extending into 2015.” Graham Robertson, managing director of Crystals, felt that months of hard work at the company were now paying off.

He said: “The months of research, development, innovation and investment, along with the support offered by Scottish Enterprise, are definitely paying dividends.

“We are attracting significant worldwide interest.

“This early success has exceeded our expectations and the enquiry level even more so.

“Our strategy has always been to develop not only the customer base for this product but also a Scottish supply chain and we are actively supporting local technology companies who can deliver the skill and the quality of component that we demand.” Alastair McKinnon, regional director of Scottish Enterprise, was pleased to see the company, which is based on the town’s Hardgate, doing well.

He said: “This is a great example of an ambitious local company which has benefited from Scottish Enterprise’s support and is now well on its way to becoming a significant international player.

“We will continue to work with the management team at Crystals to help them achieve their objectives and look forward to seeing the company’s international growth plans take shape.”
