WELL-known Haddington faces will be lacing up their dance shoes next month in a bid to raise money for local good causes.

Let’s Dance Haddington is the follow-up to last year’s hugely successful Stars In Your Eyes, which saw Councillor Tom Trotter perform as Tom Jones.

Now, it is the time for all wannabe Anton du Bekes, Flavia Cacaces and Brendan Coles to step on to the dancefloor.

Already confirmed as taking part are representatives from Tesco, Haddington traders, Haddington Guide leaders, Knox Academy, Haddington Pipe Band, Haddington Drama Club and Haddington Fire and Rescue Service. Each will compete against each other, with the public rating the best.

All proceeds from the night, on September 13 at the Corn Exchange, will go towards community projects such as the Haddington Christmas lights fund.

The winning group will receive the Haddington Events Group Community Challenge Trophy and a cash prize.

Pat Lemmon, spokeswoman for the Events Group, was looking forward to seeing everyone strut their stuff.

She said: “We are really excited about this event and since its inception it has grown legs! With the fire service in now, we have a community competition.

“All the groups have decided their own dance numbers and will be coming up with their own outfits; some have good dancers, some are true entertainers – this should be a great night. “This year we are hoping to improve the enjoyment level of the audience by introducing two large viewing screens in the Corn Exchange and by encouraging more of the audience to get up and dance; this event will be the ‘hot ticket’ of the year.” Compere for the evening is Jim Anderson, from East Coast FM, and the bar is supplied by Paul Kinnoch, from Waterloo Bistro.

Interval entertainment will be provided by Lynn’s Liners and the winner of last year’s event, Geraldine Cody.

Tickets are available from Joe Forte Sports, Betty’s and Mikes Bikes at £12 per adult, £8 concessions and £6 per child. A bar will be available in the hall and doors will be open from 7pm.
